All of the modem lights were animated to each individual instrument in the song via some simple scripting, then tracked in 3d and comped in after effects.
While this looks 3d, almost everything was shot in camera – except the modem lights which were 3d tracked by Michael Tiong and comped by yours truly.

Fun fact: The camera moves were all previs’d in 3d and the crane operator had a tough time trying to match to moves. The matte grey and camera moves give this spot a very 3d generated look and feel which was intentional.
